MASTER GROOM 2014 DATES ANNOUNCED AND ONLINE REGISTRATION OPEN

London, United Kingdom, January 10, 2014 – Master Groom 2014 has opened online registration at www.mastergroom.org for its annual dog grooming competition to be held at he Kennel Club Building, Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 April.

This year, the international competition – featuring judges and speakers from around the world – will also include ‘Fun’ classes. These consist of an Asian Fusion class, Snap-On Comb and Double Up. The Double Up requires two groomers alternating on either end of one dog.

The event will be held over two days and includes a Gala dinner on the Saturday night. The Gala will include presentation of the annual Wahl UK Liz Paul Awards. These are named in honour of the late iconic and award-winning groomer, who died in 2006. Liz Paul was born in Britain but grew up in the US and competed successfully with Groom Team USA.

According to Event Organiser Colin Taylor, the competition is modelled after US and European shows.

“A two-day event means you can enter more classes. Everything isn’t so rushed or compressed into a tight time schedule.”

Plus, he added, “there are a lot of great seminars with some really knowledgeable speakers. Competitors and spectators get more time to attend these. This is an event for people to get out of the salon, broaden their horizons, enjoy their time, meet old friends, make new ones, learn stuff.”

Best In Show sponsor is Simpson’s of Langley with sponsors of the other classes to be announced. The show is also open to trade stand exhibitors who should contact Colin Taylor directly at info@mastergroom.org or mobile 07887 473 422. Spectators from the general public are encouraged to attend. Tickets and information available online at www.mastergroom.org.

World-class Dog Groomer Launches New Book at Crufts 2013

London, United Kingdom, March 1, 2013 – Award-winning dog groomer and international competition judge, Colin Taylor, will launch his new book at Crufts, March 7 – 10 at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Hall 1. Stand 19.

In What Would Colin Do? 101 Situations and Solutions for every dog groomer, Colin describes situations that any dog groomer might encounter. In the salon. In their grooming careers. Running their own businesses. Or competing.

He doesn’t pretend that his solution is the right answer. There are multiple correct answers. But it’s what he would do. Or has done.

“A dog’s health, safety and well-being are always my first priority,” said Colin. “This underscores my approach with the book.” But Colin’s book is also a resource for groomers developing their own careers or businesses. It addresses customer service skills as well as ongoing training and education. Naturally, Colin also talks about competing.

He is a co-founder of Master Groom, one of the UK’s top dog grooming competitions. He competed actively over the last 25 years. His achievements include winner of the Oster Invitational Tournament of Champions; winner of the Dog Grooming Olympics; winner of the World Cup Grooming Games. And he has held the title of Intergroom International Groomer of the Year.

Lesley Garrett, the owner of Canine Design Academy of Grooming, has seen a preview copy of Colin’s book. “I am sure What Would Colin Do? will become an invaluable asset for groomers from all walks of life,” said Lesley. “It is easy to read, entertaining and informative.”

Award-winning author and Certified Master Groomer, Melissa Verplank, has written the foreword. According to Melissa: “When it comes to professional pet grooming, Colin Taylor has a knack for dishing out good ol’ common sense. His words are a breath of fresh air. I could not put the book down.”

Notes for editors:

Originally from England, Colin Taylor trained in London. He worked in Hong Kong before re-locating to the United States where he lived for more than 20 years. He appeared on the cover of Groomer to Groomer magazine five times. Colin has now returned to London where he recently opened The Colin Taylor Academy of Dog Grooming. He continues to judge and run workshops and is a sought-after guest speaker at events worldwide. What Would Colin Do? is his first book.

World-class Dog Groomer Opens Training School in London

London, United Kingdom, October 3, 2012 – Award-winning dog groomer and competition judge, Colin Taylor, has opened his own dog grooming training school in London. The Colin Taylor Academy operates from the premises of Just Barking, an upmarket salon and pet boutique in Kensal Rise, North West London.

“The difference with my school,” says Taylor, “is that I take on a very limited number of students at any one time. That means they get a lot of close personal attention from me – whether they like it or not.”

Prospective students will have plenty to learn from Taylor’s direct approach. In 2004, Taylor was crowned Intergroom International Groomer of the Year. In 2006 he won the World Cup Grooming Games at Burbank, California. He has won countless Best in Show awards and has been ‘a groomer to the celebrities’.

Training at the Colin Taylor Academy is designed both for beginners looking to achieve the nationally-recognised City & Guilds Qualification, as well as for advanced groomers who may need some training with Taylor in preparation for an exam or competition.

“But my training,” adds Taylor, “is also ideal for anybody with an established salon who needs to refresh their skills and reinvigorate their grooming business.”

“It’s fair to say that dog owners are more aware these days about the benefits to their dog’s health and wellness if groomed regularly,” explains Taylor.

“What does that mean for a groomer,” he asks, “in terms of choosing the right shampoos or a dryer or managing bookings or staff or customer relationships? Even experienced groomers need to work smarter.”

Notes for editors:
Originally from England, Colin Taylor trained in London before relocating to Hong Kong and then to the United States, where he lived for more than twenty years whilst competing at shows in the US and around the world with Groom Team USA.

When he returned to England five years ago, Taylor continued to judge at competitions, run workshops and hold Master Classes at salons across the UK and Europe. He co-founded Master Groom, one of the UK’s top annual dog grooming competitions. Taylor, who has appeared on the cover of Groomer to Groomer Magazine five times, is a featured guest speaker at the British Dog Grooming Championships 2012 to be held at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire on October 28.
