FAQs

If you have a burning question about dog grooming courses please ping me on colin@colintayloracademy.org or use the contact form on the Contact page. I will be able to answer you directly but may also include your question on this page. Isn’t that exciting? I’m excited.

Q. How hands-on is the training?
A. My courses focus on the PRACTICAL side of dog grooming so it’s ALL hands-on. Of course, getting ready for City & Guilds exams requires knowledge of THEORY. But most of this you can do at home rather than use up valuable salon time. If you sign up for the 20-day course we provide you a training/study pack AND we are happy to add three FREE days for you to visit the salon to help guide you through the ‘written’ component.

Q. Will I get my City & Guilds qualification if I train with you?
A. Assessment for C&G qualification is available at an additional charge of £500 on top of your course fees.

Q. Does the course prepare me for City & Guilds qualifications?
A. Training is provided with a view to City & Guilds qualifications and the training material / study pack on the 20-day course is likewise designed this way. I also provide short courses for students getting their dog ready for the City & Guilds practical exams.

Q. What breeds will we train on?
A. Just Barking is an established salon in Kensal Rise, North West London. We get all breeds of dogs here – many pedigrees but also many of the new designer cross-breeds. So it’s a good cross-section of dogs that require regular grooming at a commercial salon. Arrangements can be made for specific breed grooming training.

Q. Do I have to pay for the starter kit on the 20-day course?
A. The starter kit is included in the price. If you don’t need the kit we can deduct £250 from the overall price but you have to provide your own scissors, blades, brushes.

Q. Can I do the course part-time or, for example, afternoons only?
A. Training is normally available three days a week: Tues, Wed and Thurs. I don’t provide training on weekends because I’m often away judging or speaking at events or holding Master Classes. However, if you need to plan your training around other commitments, I am more than happy to agree a schedule that works for both of us.

Q. I don’t live in London. Is there nearby affordable accommodation?
A. Yes – we have an agreement with a local B&B. It’s a short pleasant walk to the salon. And they serve a good breakfast.
